Match Report: Herefordshire 24 – 16 Gloucestershire (26/11/22)

A close game saw Herefordshire see off a competitive Gloucestershire team at the Larruperz, with just 14 shots separating the teams over the course of the day (198-184).

Old rivalries were renewed as Herefordshire took on their neighbours from over the border in a match that lived up to its billing of a tight contest. The first session saw Herefordshire take close victories on three mats to take an early lead. However, this was overturned in the second session, with Gloucestershire’s Triples and Fours winning on all four mats to put them into a narrow lead at the halfway stage.

The afternoon session started in similar fashion to the morning, with the Singles and Pairs doing what was needed by securing victory across all four mats as well as the bonus points in each discipline. This meant that Herefordshire needed just 3 or more points to take the overall victory and with the Fours struggling, it was the Triples- lead by Ian Roe and Merion Attwood- that stepped up and won on both mats, securing the bonus points by just 2 shots to give Herefordshire a 24-16 victory and take the advantage in the race for a top two place in the group.
