HSMBA Announces February “Short Mat Social Sessions” at Bridge Street Sports Centre, Leominster
Herefordshire Short Mat Bowling Association is pleased to announce the launch of our FREE “Short Mat Social Sessions“, commencing on Wednesday 4th February (6:30pm-8:30pm) and running for four weeks at the same day/time at our County Home venue, Bridge Street Sports Centre, Leominster, HR6 8EA.
The HSMBA is keen to increase the presence of short mat bowls and participation in the sport as a whole across the county with an overall aim of launching a club in Leominster.
The “Social Sessions” are open to all. Whether you are picking up a bowl for the first time or have played any of the various forms of the game before, these sessions will offer the opportunity to learn the game in a relaxed environment under the guidance of an experienced and welcoming team. It’s a great way to stay active, meet new people, and enjoy a welcoming sport that everyone of any age can take part in.
Whether you attend all 4 or are only able to come to one or two, come along, try out a new sport and see what it is all about.
All equipment will be provided as well as free refreshments and the chance to try something new with a new group of people!
Many people make assumptions about bowls and the stereotypes surrounding it- we’re here to challenge those-why not come and give it a go? You may surprise yourself and have nothing to lose!

About The Sport & Who We Are
Short mat bowls is based on the outdoor sport of lawn bowls so many of the rules are adaptations of the rules of the outdoor game with the basic aim being to deliver as many woods (bowls) as possible nearer to the smaller target bowl (the jack) than any of the opposition’s woods. Herefordshire Short Mat Bowling Association is the organising body for short mat bowls in Herefordshire. Currently comprised of 14 clubs and 250 members aged 7-97, we are affiliated to the ESMBA, the governing body in England, and we run leagues, county teams and open competitions as well as generally promoting and developing the sport within the county.
