The 2024 competition was played at the Leominster Indoor Bowling Centre with 21 pairs competing initially in 4 round robin groups. The top two teams in each group progressed to the knockout stages and by the semi-final stage, four strong teams remained.

Semi final one saw a victory for those who enjoy a narrative as John Mills & Joe Loveys (Woolhope/Gorsley Chapel) were drawn against Loveys’ Gorsley teammates Lynn Williams & Sophie Heather Warner. Keen to avoid a grudge match, Loveys and Heather-Warner were (just) able to amicably put their relationship off the mat to one side to produce a very close game that saw Mills & Loveys hold their nerve to book their place in the final with a 10-9 win. In the second semi final Chris Complin & Jim Knowles, looking to win St Martin’s first County Championship, faced Dave Watkins & Ian Roe. Sadly this was not meant to be as Ross continued their string of strong results, pushing on from a score of 4-4 at the halfway stage to win 11-4 and setup what promised to be an intriguing final.

Taking place in front of a strong attendance for an HSMBA final, those watching were treated to a replay of the national qualifying final which was won by the Woolhope/ Gorsley Chapel pairing. Carrying on from that match, Mills & Loveys won each of the first three ends by one before a three for Watkins and Roe put them back in contention. The two teams continued to trade singles until the ninth end where, with the scores at 5-5, Watkins and Roe grabbed a crucial two that, with two fantastic bowls from Watkins in the final end, was enough to seal victory for the Ross pairing.
