All to Play For as Winter Leagues Reach Halfway Mark

As the Herefordshire Short Mat Bowling Association’s Winter Leagues reach the halfway mark, new contenders have emerged across both divisions to challenge the more established league teams.

In Division One, the top of the table shows a familiar picture with Woolhope having won all nine of their games thus far, taking a total of 76 points from the 90 on offer. The all too familiar landscape ends there however, with the Weston Wizards breaking the status quo in second place, 11 points behind Woolhope and 4 points clear of Ross Wolves who will be keen to find the form that took them ever so close to the title last season. At the bottom of the table lie St Martins Falcons in 10th and Llangarron in 9th  but with just 12 points separating 5th place Tarrington and the Falcons, the battle to avoid relegation looks to be one that will rumble on late into the season.

Division Two is very much an all Ross affair with Ross Alligators, Hedgehogs and the newly formed Badgers taking the top three spots on 66, 58 and 56 points respectively. Falling just short of the Ross trio are Golden Valley who, with a game in hand and greater shots difference, will be looking to make a push towards the summit in the hope of a first ever promotion to Division One.
