The split to three divisions has certainly done no harm to the competiveness of the HSMBA’s Winter League as the battles for titles, promotion and relegation are slowly starting to heat up!
In Division One, it’s Weston Wizards who top the table heading into the New Year with Ross Wolves hot on their heels just one point behind. Defending Champions Woolhope Wanderers find themselves in fifth, behind Lea and Gorsley Chapel Oaks but in the knowledge that victory in their game in hand will lift them back into title contention. Towards the other end of the table, Tarrington sit bottom but with a run of home games to come, seven points behind Llangarron in seventh who themselves are only one point behind St Martin’s Hawks in sixth.
Division Two has a long way to go to match the drama of last season but it is already shaping up to be a close battle between the experienced Fownhope, currently topping the table on 40 points, Ross Hedgehogs (37 Points), Astan Ingham Severns (31 Points) and Golden Valley (30 Points). Two further Ross teams, the Badgers and Alligators, sit slightly further afield on 26 and 24 points respectively but clear of bottom placed St Martins Falcons on 12 points who need to make the most of their game in hand to put themselves back in touch with the pack.
Unsurprisingly it’s Woolhope Wasps who lead the way in Division Three having gone on a strong run of results following defeat in their first game of the season. On the assumption that Woolhope carry their electric form into the New Year, the big battle of Division Three looks to be for second place with Ledbury Swallows currently occupying the position on 38 points, just one point ahead of Gorsley Chapel Cedars who have two games in hand. St Martin’s Eagles sit a further 10 points behind them in fourth place but with a game in hand themselves on Gorsley.
