Fownhope Couple win the Pairs

Bob Weafer Pairs Tournament at Potters

Isobel and Mark Wardley had a very successful week in the Bob Weafer Pairs tournament at Potter's 28 Nov to 2 Dec. 2011. They beat the favourites Tony and Gill Kent from Cambridgeshire 8-3 in 9 ends, the 10th end was not played. This was an excellent and convincing victory as Tony and Gill were expected to win.

New Umpire for Herefordshire

ESMBA Umpire

Richard Bemand of the Lea Short Mat Bowling Club has recently passed the exacting exam to become an Umpire at all games played under the English Short Mat Bowls regulations. He can now officiate at all County Games when required both in Herefordshire and other Counties, the first County Game he umpired was Worcestershire versus Herefordshire at the Bromsgrove Bowling Centre. Richard has been a keen bowler for many years and is a valued member of his club, playing in the league and club competitions

England Ladies against Ireland Ladies

1-2 October 2011

Kempston

Three players were chosen to play the match England against Ireland on the weekend of October 1-2 2011. The Engish team beat the Irish team 63 points to 49 and with shots 667 to 662. A very tight and close game. Well done to the Herefordshire players, Isobel Wardley, Becci Cox and Shirley Cox for contributing to the success of the English team.
National Success at Kempston.

Two players, Shirley Cox and Isobel Wardley, of HSMBA were chosen at the English Short Mat Bowls Association trials in July, to play for the England Ladies team.  They will play again for a practice on September 18th before they play for England Ladies against the Irish Ladies team from Armagh on October 1st and 2nd 2011
Other players from Herefordshire selected to compete at the trials were Becci Cox, Dawn Cox, Jean Austin and Sheila Whittingham.  Well done Herefordshire!

Further success at Kempston

Each year the President of the English Short Mat Bowling Association invites players from all over the country to enter for a place in the President Select Team to play against the England Team.  This year Herefordshire entered six players and all six were chosen to play in the match.  Congratulations to Becci and Shirley Cox from Woolhope Club, Isobel and Mark Wardley from Fownhope Club, Jo and Brian Claessen from The Lea Club who will play in the Presidents Select Team on Sunday, September 18th 2011 at Kempston.

Brian Claessen passed the exams to become an Umpire this year

New Pairs Champions 2011

Brian Claessen became the HSMBA County Pairs Champion with his wife Joan.

New National Singles Champion 2011

Brian Claessen represented Herefordshire in the ESMBA National Singles Championship.

New 'A' Team Captain 2011

Brian Claessen became the new County 'A' Team Captain for the winter season, 2011-2012.

HSMBA Achievement award 2011

For his hard work and achievements throughout the year HSMBA committee awarded him the Achievement award for the year 2011.

Congratulations to Brian on an extremely successful year.
