Happy New Year

Ross News

Ross Bowling Club was formed in 1920 as an outdoor flat green club and is now the club with the largest outdoor and indoor membership in Herefordshire. During the mid nineteen eighties Short Mat Bowling was introduced to the members as a social event once a week.

In 1995 they were invited to join the recently formed Herefordshire and Gloucestershire League.  In the first year seven members won in the County finals to qualify for the National Championships at Birmingham. Since then approximately thirty members have qualified for the National Championships, some on a regular basis.

They joined the HSMBA League and just two years later they won both the League and the LEH Perpetual Trophy.

They have continued from this strong start to win four further League Division titles and have also won the Inter County LEH Trophy five times. More recently they formed ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams and each team has won the Second Division title. The club has regularly supplied players for the County Premier and ‘A’ Teams.

During the winter season, leagues for pairs and triples are run on two afternoons and two evenings a week in which their fifty plus member particiapate. A singles tournament is organised to close the season.

Since 1990 the entire club premises have been rebuilt.  In 2005 a multipurpose function room was added which was large enough to take four short mats and provide a viewing area complete with a bar.
